Some things are just…..odd

This is one of them. American actress Kirsten Dunst, probably best known for her role as Mary Jane Watson in the Spiderman movies, recently danced in the streets in the Akihabara District of Tokyo in full-on cosplay garb. Decked from head to toe in shiny shimmery electric blue hair and an anime sailor outfit, Dunst was part of a music video that was, according to Yeinjee.com,

produced by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and directed by McG (of Charlie’s Angels movie etc.) for an exhibition at London’s Tate Modern museum.

The song in the video is the Vapors’ 1980s hit “I Think I’m Turning Japanese”, a bubbly pop gem that still apparently has some fans.

Without further ado, here’s the video (warning: there are a couple seconds of explicit anime images, so this might be considered somewhat NSFW. Watch with discretion.)

I’d like to see how Dunst was approached with this concept, as it is definitely NOT the sort of thing she has built a successful acting career doing…but it’s still pretty entertaining and random.

  1. I know! I don’t see what the point of making the video is if no one ever gets to see it… =/
