Here’s Risa’s top 5 favorite anime from 2016 fall season!
*This review is based on my personal opinions and I do not watch all the anime from every season so please understand
No. 5 – Girlish Number
Plot: It’s about a college student Chitose who started her career as a voice actor a year ago! She’s not really a passionate girl about her career because the reason why she decided to become a voice actor is that she didn’t want to be bored when she becomes an adult. She even thinks that this job is not fun and this industry is messed up only because she doesn’t get a main role….
No. 4 – Yuri!!! On ICE
Plot: The story is about a Japanese figure skater who lost at the Gran Prix Finale ice skating. Yuri Katsuki went back to Japan to reflect what he wants to do in the future. But suddenly, his idol Victor Nikiforov showed up in front of him and told him that he will be Yuri’s coach. At the same time, a young Russian professional figure skater, Yuri Plisetsky also came to Japan to follow Victor.
No. 3 – Magical Girl Raising Project
Plot: A popular smart phone game app called “Magical Girl Raising Project” allows one in ten thousand people to become a real magical girl with extraordinary physical capabilities and each girl’s special ability. Those chosen magical girls earn candies by helping people and performing good deeds. However, the administration decides to cut down the number in half based on the number of candies that they have collected. Now the magical girls’ survival battle has begun…
Review: Another magical girls anime with a dark plot but this time without the typical magical girls looks. The main character is snow white and there is a witch, ninja, sister, dog, knight and no one looks like a typical magical girl. However since the character design is so pretty, it doesn’t even bother you when you start watching this series. Many people refer this anime to “Madoka Magica” as a dark magical girls fantasy story but to me it was more similar to “Yuki Yuna is a Hero.” Like these two titles, despite their super cute moe character design, this anime also gets pretty brutal and violent. As for the story, everything happens so fast with a shocking ending every time and I wish they made this anime with over 20 episodes. There are 16 magical girls in total and each girl has their own dark past or real life struggles so I wanted them to go deeper about those magical girls’ real life story.
No. 2 – JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable
Plot: Set in 1999, 11 years after the Part.3, Stardust Crusaders, this season’s main character is Josuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of Joseph Joestar. Like Joseph or Jotaro Kujo, Josuke also has the special “Stand” power and a new threat is surfacing in Morioh City.
Review: After about 40 episodes, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable Part. 4 is finally over! I’m not usually into shonen manga or lots of action scenes, but compared to the previous arcs, Part. 4 definitely has less action scenes and instead has more funny comedy episodes which I loved so much! Character design, posing, artwork and music is artistic and unique as usual. The ending of Part. 4 was really beautiful and I was very satisfied. I hope they make Part. 5 into anime series too!
No. 1 – Sound! Euphonium 2
Plot: Kumiko belongs to a brass band club at her high school and in season 1, her school won the Kyoto regional tournament and now she has a ticket to proceed to the Kansai tournament! While club members only want to focus on practice for the Kansai tournament, we can already smell some drama that might interfere them…
Review: I love how realistic this anime portrays high school girls’ seishun story. The way they react and feel is not really same as typical 2D girls but more like realistic high school girls. It’s really silent, no exaggerated reactions and I feel like I can even smell summer in Japan just by watching this anime. Kyoto animation did a fantastic job with their background and beautiful artwork which makes us feel like as if we are actually there experiencing all the views, smells and feels. I personally like Asuka senpai so I was happy that I could get to know her more through her episodes. Seniors graduated from high school and brass band club, but I really hope they make a season three with new characters. I would love to see how Kumiko and Reina grow more and more.
