[ANIME REVIEW] 2016 SPRING ANIME REVIEWS PART. 1
[ANIME REVIEW] 2016 SPRING ANIME REVIEWS PART. 2
*This review is based on my personal opinions and I do not watch all the anime from every season so please understand.
Space Patrol Luluco
★☆☆☆☆
Plot: Ogikubo is the name of the specially designated area in space in the Milky Way where Earthlings and aliens can live together. Luluco is a female middle school student who lives with her father, and no matter where she is, Luluco is a common, “super normal” girl. As she is living her normal life, one day the mysterious transfer student ΑΩ Nova abruptly appears before her. That meeting will change Luluco’s fate. (Source: Anime News Network)
Review: I think this show is a love or hate type of anime, and unfortunately I was the latter one. It is produced by Trigger so if you like the uniqueness and animation style of Kill La Kill, you might fall in love with this anime. As a rare otaku who couldn’t get herself into Kill La Kill, it goes same with Luluco due to their humor, fast tempo story and characters.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable
★★★★☆
Plot: It’s the year 1999, 11 years after Jotaro Kujo’s desperate fight against Dio in Egypt. Jotaro meets with Josuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of his grandfather Joseph Joestar. He discovers that Josuke also has the same “Stand” power and that a new threat is surfacing in Morioh City. (Source: Anime News Network)
Review: Jojo anime never betrays you in an awesome way! Yes Jojo is back with Part. 3’s main character, Jotaro Kujo. Since Jojo’s character design’s change is more visible starting Part. 4 (most characters are always very macho and buff from Part. 1 – Part. 3 but after Part. 4, characters are slimmer and model type figure) and I heard the news that a Japanese actor Yu Shirota sings for new Jojo OP, I was a little worried how they would change the direction while keeping the ultimate atmosphere of “Jojo.” From the opening, you can tell that this Part. 4 is more pop compared to super manly previous Jojo openings, and this describes Part. 4 quiet well. It’s very stylish and all characters still have a very specific way of talking as usual and that made me feel like Jojo will be always Jojo, which I have no complain about. The main character, Josuke is really cute too! Haha He’s a cute yankee with a kind and passionate heart so he prefers not to kill anyone including villains. I really hope the production will make the rest of Jojo series into anime in the future as well.
Big Order
★☆☆☆☆
Plot: Eiji Hoshimiya is an introverted high school student with a huge secret — he wished for the destruction of the world when he was younger. Fairies give certain people special powers called Orders. What Order Users can do with their power depends on their wishes. 10 years after the Great Destruction, Eiji struggles to come to terms with his immense power. (Source: Anime News Network)
Review: Let me tell you this first. This anime is really like “Future Diary.” No wonder because the author is Sakae Esuno who wrote “Future Diary” and produced by the same anime studio, Asread. It is dark, sexy and very chuuni however since the violence scene is pretty intense I thought it was definitely for adults and it was getting interesting. However once the main character Eiji revealed his special power at the end of the first episode, suddenly this whole anime looked very childish although they still kept the sexy mourning voice of a heroine for the whole credit roll. Yes, I was very confused. It is violent and sexy but the concept seems more for kids’ anime. Unfortunately, I didn’t proceed to watch this anime after episode 1. But if you liked “Future Diary” with more special power action twist, you might enjoy this anime.
Tanaka-kun is Always Listless
★★☆☆☆
Plot: Tanaka is a high school boy who sighs (with a hand on his chin), dozes and sleeps just about anytime and anywhere: in classroom, in PE classes, and even after school hours he is too lazy to move. In contrast, his friend Ohta and other classmates around him are quite energetic, despite of their numerous failed attempts to “wake” Tanaka up. (Source: Anime News Network)
Review: I was excited to watch cute girls that are shown on the visual image on this show but in contrary to my expectations, a first episode was filled with Tanaka kun and his male friend, which gave me an impression that this show might be actually for fujoshi. However, the more the story goes, the more cute girls (that I like! lol) appeared and the series itself got more interesting with more unique characters. Some girls seem they are gay for each other so yuri lovers might be able to enjoy this show. My favorite character was a female class leader, Shiraishi. Without spoiling anything, her character was very appealing to me because no one is perfect and she was very human.
Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou
★★☆☆☆
Plot: Being the heir of a tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant running for three generations, young Agetarō Katsumata works at the family business daily under his father’s supervision but with little motivation. One day he stumbled into a nightclub in the neighborhood and soon discovered the similarities of rhythmic moves between cooking tonkatsu and being a disc jockey. (Source: Anime News Network)
Review: This show is surreal. Who could think of making a story about DJ and tonkatsu together?! I love tonkatsu and I can make tonkatsu but I don’t really know much about DJing. So it’s really interesting to see similarities between making tonkatsu and DJing. It’s even greater that it’s really realistic and educational for both fields and you learn a lot from this 15-minutes anime. They also welcome Japanese subculture and DJ scene related guests as voice actors for every episode. It might be a good reason for you to research those Japanese underground artists from this anime.
This completes my reviews for 2016 Spring anime. I would say my favorite from this season is Macorss Delta, Re: Zero, Anne Happy and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part.4. If you are interested you should definitely check out these anime! ^_^ <3
