In Japan, it’s a tradition to visit a shrine during New Years and this first visit of the year is called Hatsumoude. Nowadays lots of anime series feature the actual cities and spots and vsiting these places is called as Seichi Junrei by anime fans. This time we would like to introduce you to some of the popular shrines from the anime series where you can actually go for your Hatsumoude.
・Washinomiya Shrine from “Lucky☆Star”
Washinomiya Shrine is in Kuki City (ex Washinomiya City), Saitama Prefecture and it is one of the most famous Seichi Junrei spots.It is the Kanto region’s oldest shrine and in “Lucky☆Star” it appears as Takanomiya Shrine. Kagami’s scene walking in front of the Torii in this series’ OP song, “Motteke! Sailor Fuku” is very popular. Kagami and her twin sister, Tsukasa are shrine maidens at this Takanomiya Shrine.
・Chichibu Shrine from “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day”
Chichibu Shrine is an important spot for this hit anime, “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day” taken place in Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture. Main characters’ childhood group, “Super Peace Busters” always show their emotions and have some serious and important talk at this shrine. Moreover, Chichibu Shrine’s annual and traditional festival, Chichibu Night Festival collaborated with Anohana and they had a collaboration fireworks there like the anime as well.
・Kanda Shrine from “Love Live!”
One of the μ’s members, Nozomi Tojo works at this Kanda Shrine and this shrine has made an appearance in this show, “Love Live!” countless times. Characters visit this shrine for training or sometimes praying for their success and it has left a great impact on viewers. Since it’s at a great location in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, so many Love Live! fans have been visiting Kanda Shrine and you can see many ema boards with Love Live! fan art.
・Fushimi Inari Taisha from “Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha”
Inari Shrine where the God, Uka-no-Mitama-no-Kami lives is modeled after Fushimi Inari Taisha located in Fushimi-Ku, Kyoto. The main character, Inari Fushimi visits this shrine so many times and you can see thousands of beautiful torii in this anime series like the actual shrine.
