21-year old Lisa Courtney of Herfordshire, UK has done it. Due to her amassing, in her words, over 13,000 pieces of Pokemon memorabilia, she is now considered the world record-holder for Pokemon merchandise. She is included in the new Guinness Book of World Records 2010 Gamers Edition, due to her proclivity for Pikachu, Charmander, Blastoise and all those other little Poke-things.
This video briefly discusses Courtney’s collection and she says a few words about how honored she is to be a world record holder.
This is just….wow. That’s A LOT of Pokemon stuff. I can’t even imagine how much money she’s spent on Pokemon in the past thirteen years….the number must be scary.
Here in the US, Pokemon was pretty popular in the late 1990s/early 2000s among (mostly) younger people who were drawn to the Japanese television program/card game/merchandise empire, but I’d say the Poke-fever has long since died out…but apparently it’s still going strong in other areas, as games keep being released and people apparently fill their houses with stuffed Pikachus and action figures. Crazy.
OMG, The Dad or Mum must be a little messed up too to allow this to get so out of hand, are you sure one of them isn’t Japanese?
