Salar de Uyuni is one of the most popular tourist spots in the world today. Everyone wants to experience “a border where heaven meets earth” with their own eyes. However going to Salar de Uyuni is not easy. You have to fly to La Paz airport in Bolvia, take another flight to Uyuni airport and finally take one hour bus ride from the airport to Salar de Uyuni. If you are flying from Japan, it takes at least 30 hours in total.

This time I heard a rumor that there is a similar spot to Salar de Uyuni in Japan! I made a research and found out that it was Egawa Coast in Chiba.

From Tokyo station, it takes about an hour by car and two hours by public transportations.

Recommended time would be around sunset. You can see beautiful graduation from the sky into the ocean.

Here are the photos that I took!

Too bad it didn’t look exactly like Salar de Uyuni on that day but it was still breathtakingly beautiful that made me happy that I decided to visit.

Conditions for Salar de Uyuni phenomenon is:

  1. No wind
  2. At low tide water
  3. Puddle at tidal flat

When these conditions meet, you might be able to take photos like Salar de Uyuni with Mt. Fuji in the back.
