The Blue Miburo Anime is Now Available on Streaming Platforms!

ytv animation released the latest entry in a surging media trend focusing on reimaginings of Japan’s bygone eras, Blue Miburo. Based on Tsuyoshi Yasuda’s manga and available on Crunchyroll, the Blue Miburo anime covers the final years of the Edo Period and is a dramatized retelling of the rise of the Shinsengumi, and the social and political change they inspired in 19th Century Japan. This anime follows the original character, Nio, as he joins the band of Mibu ronin in their fight to defend their city while pursuing his dream of creating a better world.

Similar to titles like Shōgun and Vagabond, Blue Miburo is set to both entertain and enlighten audiences with its unique depiction of a pivotal and culturally significant moment in Japanese history.

OP Theme: Blue/Spyair

The opening and ending animation segments are now available to celebrate this historic series’s streaming premiere. The opening is titled “Blue” and is performed by the rock band Spyair, which previously contributed opening themes to the Haikyuu and Gintama anime. The ending is titled “UNBREAKABLE” and is performed by THE JET BOY BANGERZ.

Blue Miburo has also cast Megumi Ogata as Kikuchiyo; also known as the shogun Tokugawa Iemochi. Speaking about the role, Ogata said, “Shogun is a charming character who is well-respected despite his young age. Initially, I was unsure about how to capture his charm, especially after reading the manga and further discovering the character of Shogun. However, I was able to bring Shogun to life under the support of the Blue Miburo production team. Please show love for this fresh, new take on the Shinsengumi story! ”. Performing as a singer under the stage name em:óu, Ogata’s previous roles include the characters Yugi Mutou/Dark Yugi in Yu-Gi-Oh, Kurama in YuYu Hakusho, and Sailor Uranus in the Sailor Moon series.

New episodes of Blue Miburo will premiere on Crunchyroll, and region-specific platforms, every Saturday at 3 am PT.

STORY

It’s 1863, the twilight of the shogunate, and Japan is on the cusp of monumental change. The streets of the nation’s capital are soaked in blood as political upheaval and rising tensions between masterless, wandering ronin and government samurai set the stage for one of the most turbulent times in Japan’s history. Young orphan Nio is no stranger to the harsh realities of the world, and yet he can’t help but cling to his burning passion for justice and desire to change the world for the better.

One day, he crosses paths with two men who will become central figures of the coming revolution: Hijikata Toshizo and Okita Souji, two of the founding members of a group of hated ronin known as the Miburo—who would later become known as the Shinsengumi. Inspired by the efforts of the so-called “Blue Miburo,” Nio decides to join the ranks to help carve a path to the world he wishes to see. But with new betrayals and reversals every day, will Nio be able to stay true to his conscience?
