2022 is the year of the tiger. 2022 is definitely the year of Travis Japan. 🐯
World of Dance Championship Week 2022, the largest International Urban Dance Competition, was held at The Source on July 29, 30 and 31. Many talented dance teams gathered for this big event from all over the world.
Although it has been only four months since Travis Japan moved to the US to polish their skills as an entertainer, they were able to leave a huge impact on anyone who participated in the event this past weekend.
Travis Japan won 4th place and Best Costume award for the USA Team Division, 9th place and Crowd Favorite award for the Team division, and Ultimate Crowd Favorite award for the World Finals.
The crowd was mesmerized by Travis Japan’s incredible dance performance along with a Japanese remix version of their original songs medley.
Here’s a statement from Kaito Miyachika, leader of Travis Japan, regarding the group’s recent experience at the World of Dance Championship Week 2022 in Orange County, California.
【Statement from Kaito Miyachika】
Getting to participate in the World of Dance Championships was a brand-new and exciting challenge; not just for the 7 of us in Travis Japan, but also for the whole Johnny & Associates family. Not knowing what would happen each day of the competition or what such esteemed judges might think of our efforts made us really nervous at times, but it was always abated by the roar of the crowds and the thrill of being back on stage.
The experience we’ve had here will forever be our treasured memory and a weapon we hone through the course of our ongoing “Hollywood TJ” adventure in the United States. Thank you so much to everyone who supported us through these past three days, and who continue to cheer us on this journey to our dreams!
In the World Finals, the 2019 winner, N’Ism from Japan, won 1st place. Since the competition was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, they became the first team in history to win two consecutive championships. Furthermore, continuing from 2016, the Japanese teams have won the tournament for the fifth consecutive year.
